People have a lot of silly phobias. Some people don't like going outside,
some don't like coming inside, some don't trust themselves around cliffs,
and some get a little edgy underneath them. But, there's one thing that
scares the bejeezus out of just about everyone. And, there's always an
easy, one-step solution to this problem; since it's the unseen forces
of the universe that cause a person's demise (and everything else that goes
wrong in our lives), there's got to be a way to appease them, even for a
little while. And, of course, since these unseen forces are powerful enough
to mess with everyone's lives, they might just be powerful enough to
beat the crap out of whatever's going around offing people.
So we eventually figured out how to organize making the very powers that have
a stranglehold on all our lives happy. We have set rules, punishments, and
procedures that should keep all of us if not completely out of harm's way,
then at least far enough away to enjoy a sunset or two. We even have a chance
at enjoying all the sunsets ever, if whatever controls the universe loves
us.
But there's a price.
I won't discuss anyone's religion here; I respect you, yes you, and your
opinion too highly - unless you're perusing my site for hate-mail ammo, in
which case you can contact me here
and then go to hell. What I will offer, however, is some insight as to how
groups as nobly intentioned as Religious institutions can earn and recieve
the most sinister reputations imaginable.
When we create heroes, powerful and respected beings to aid and rescue us
and stand vigil over us, holding the nefarious forces of the universe at bay,
we create a dangerous precedent. We are expected, going from children to
adults, to depend less and less on our personal heroes, eventually leaving
them completely to become parents ourselves. How, then, do we view the men
and women that beseech the very forces of the cosmos on our behalf? We're
very glad they're watching over us and keeping tsunamis from destroying our
homes, of course, but we grew up with them and know about as much about the
world as they do. What makes these people special?
And, when we finally become these people, who among us will be able to stop
us?
Religious conspiracies are the oldest, most powerful, and largest
conspiracies in the world, and some are very, very real. So real, in fact,
that they haven't needed secrecy for centuries, moving from being cults to
being real religious institutions, never forgetting where they came from.
They may not have become the powers they claim to fend off, but several times
in history they have come remarkably close. Most religions only adopt secrecy
to shield themselves from more powerful religions. For the first time in
human history, we have governments that are not synonomous with religions,
but we can't forget that this has not been the case for long.
Of course, none of that applies to any of the sites here. These guys are
just nuts. So nuts some of them want the world to end next week, just so
they'll be right.
